Satellite TV is the provision of television content/services via satellite. It is categorized as a broadcast media service.
The range of a Satellite TV Station depends upon foot print or coverage area of the Satellite being used.
A company registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) under the Companies Act, 2017 having paid up capital of not less than Rs. 50 Million and meeting the eligibility criteria may apply for Satellite TV channel licence whenever, PEMRA invites applications through advertisement in the newspapers and on PEMRA website: www.pemra.gov.pk
Satellite TV broadcast station licences for various categories are awarded under Section 19 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 (Amendment Act 2023) through an open and transparent bidding process, if the applications received exceed the advertised number of licences for each category.
The Satellite TV channel license are granted in the following commercial categories:
Maximum number of Satellite TV licenses that a company can hold, directly or indirectly, is four.
The license fee is determined on the basis of open and transparent bidding and varies from category to category.
YES. PEMRA licensees are bound to comply all PEMRA laws, including PEMRA Ordinance, Rules, Regulations & terms and conditions of license, code of conduct and any other subsequent directives/guidelines issued by the Authority.
