Q.1 What is short and Long Term Up-linking?

Short-term Uplinking refers to the immediate transmission of data or signals from a ground station to a satellite. Long-Term Uplinking involves sustained or periodic transmissions over an extended period to maintain communication or update satellite functions.

Q.2 What are the advantages of short and Long Term Up-linking?

The advantages of Short-Term Uplinking include immediate communication for events like live broadcasts or emergencies, while Long-term uplinking offers continuous connectivity for tasks like remote sensing, weather monitoring, and satellite navigation systems.

Q.3 How to apply for short and Long Term Up-linking?

Obtain the official application form from the PEMRA Website at web address https://www.pemra.gov.pk/tu/ or office. Fill out the form completely and accurately, providing all required information.

Q.4 Is there any application processing fee?

Yes, it is 20,000/- (Twenty thousand) which is non-refundable. For Long Term only.

Q.5 What is the licensing procedure?

Short Term and Long Term licenses are awarded on case to case basis.

Q.6 What are the important documents required for the grant of short and Long Term Up-linking?

  1. For Short Term: Company registration with relevant bodies (SECP in case of Pakistani company) Details of Directors/CEO.
  2. For Long Term: Should not be a firm or company the majority of whose shares are owned or controlled by foreign national or whose management control is vested in foreign national or companies.
  3. Copy of Agreement with Satellite Operator / Foreign Company (if any).
  4. Description of major areas of operation/ activities of the company, detail of previous short term Up-linking permission (if any) etc.

Q.7 What category can I apply for the grant of short and long-term Up-linking?

Category-D: Event like Shows/Exhibitions/Award Ceremonies US $ 1000/- per day.
(Up linking permission is issued on event basis)

Q.8 Are there any DO’s and DONT’s for the grant of Short and Long Term Up-linking?

Yes, PEMRA licensees are bound to comply with the Code of Conduct, PEMRA Ordinance, Rules and Regulations.
